Time Management Strategies for the Overwhelmed CPA
As many CPAs know, time management is crucial to running a successful firm. Good time management increases efficiency and keeps everything in order, decreasing the chance of making mistakes. Below are four time management strategies to help keep your firm on track:
Know when to delegate: Spend time working on the most important tasks. To keep things organized, designate a time each week to meet with team members and go over the agenda for the week. That way you can see what everyone else has going on and delegate projects accordingly.
Know when to say no: If someone comes to your firm looking for services that you don’t specialize in, it’s best to say no. Though it may be difficult to turn down the revenue, it’s better to say no than to make a mistake because you don’t know what you’re doing.
Set goals and be proactive: By setting goals you allow yourself to be proactive. However, you’ll never be proactive if you let yourself get pulled off track by emails, phone calls or other projects. Set aside an hour a day to respond to calls and emails so they don’t interfere with your goals.
Let technology make it easier: Purchase a customer relationship management (CRM) system to make life easier. CRM systems have features that inform someone in the firm if a change has been made to a certain account. They help keep a company systemized and save time.
