Tips for Tax Season
It’s no secret that tax season is upon us and accounting firms are preparing for the long, tiring months ahead. In order to help make the season as stress free as possible, follow these tips:
Prioritize Issues. Don’t try and fix all your problems at once. Figure out the ones needing the most attention and work on those first.
Create a personalized development program. Use this program to focus on the success of individual staff members.
Provide staff with professional development in key areas. Focus on understanding client needs, closing skills, time management and communication skills.
Analyze all clients for gross probability. Label them – A, B, C, D – with A and B clients being the most profitable, C clients as least profitable, and D clients as unprofitable. Assess what it would take to help C and D clients become more profitable.
Understand capabilities of your tax system. Many firms don’t use a large portion of their system’s functionalities so a business representative for your vendor should be prepared to assist you in this area.
